ABOUT

Mark Campbell is the artist behind shipwrecked photography

My love of photography was inherited from my father, Tom Campbell, who spent a lifetime devoted to film developing in Toronto and Stoney Creek, Ontario.  He was always taking pictures, and as far back as I can remember, I had a camera in my hands too; most likely a camera that he gave to me.  Thank you again Dad.

Many years later, something else happened that took this art form to the next level for me;  the awakening of my love to travel and explore.  Each new destination brought with it new opportunities for landscape captures unlike anything I had done previously, and not wanting to waste those opportunities, my approach completely changed. Taking pictures became more than a hobby and travel became more than an escape for relaxation.  I invested ever-increasing amounts of time in the careful research of a destination long before my arrival, with the new focus being on locational shoot opportunities, weather, terrain, accessibility, time of day, and so on. Alongside this destination research, I began watching hours of instructional training, presented by brilliant artists in the photography genres I hoped to excel in; men and women whom I greatly admire. Landscape photo composition, technical settings, lenses, filters, light, aperture, ISO, shutter speed, and just about every other digital photography-related topic imaginable, has found its way onto my radar.  I merge all this travel and photography research, applying it to each shoot in every place I venture. The goal is always to experience a landscape travel/photographic adventure.

Each and every time I train my lens, close my left eye and frame a shot, I find beauty in the world around me.

I believe beauty is everywhere if you know where to look.

Please enjoy your visit.
